Palace Plaint   Bai Juyi

Tears drained and silk handkerchief wetted, / but her hope of a dream is gone;

Deep in the night, in the front Palace, / beating and singing keep going on.

The Emperor’s favour she has lost before getting old….

Leaning on sandalwood burner, / she sits till dawn.

A Night by the Jian De River   Meng Haoran

I move my boat / to moor by a misty isle.

At nightfall, / I fall prey to renewed melancholy,

In the wilderness, / the sky has fallen below the trees;

On the clear river, / the moon is close to me.
